FILE 04 / CALCULATOR LAUNCHER

A working calculator. Quietly, also a vault.

The Calculator Launcher is an optional alternate icon that turns AppVault into a fully functional calculator on your home screen. It does arithmetic. It calculates tips. It also, on a long-press of the equals key followed by your pattern, reveals the encrypted vault.

WHY IT EXISTS

A phone you sometimes hand to a stranger.

A border agent asks to flip through your photo roll. A friend grabs your phone to take a group photo and casually swipes left. Your kid plays with your unlocked iPad on a long flight. In any of those moments, you do not want to explain why you have a private vault app on your home screen.

The Calculator Launcher is the answer. With it enabled, AppVault appears on your home screen as a clean, branded calculator. Open it and it calculates. Hand it to your kid and they will compute. Show it to an inspector and they will see a calculator.

Only you know that a long-press on the equals key, followed by your 5×5 pattern, opens an entirely separate encrypted compartment.

HOW APPLE SEES IT

It is, first, a calculator that actually calculates.

AppVault declares the Calculator Launcher openly in its App Store description. Apple’s App Review Guidelines (4.3 and 5.2.5) allow alternate icons and ask only that the app does what its primary metadata says. The launcher does arithmetic the way a calculator does — every operation, every memory key, every history function — and the vault entry is a clearly documented privacy feature, not a hidden trick.

We do not market the launcher as a way to hide things from a spouse or skirt parental controls. The use cases we ship in our description are the ones Apple recognizes: shared family devices, border and customs travel, journalism, legal practice, healthcare, and shoulder-surfing protection in public.
